The Common Cold

The whole saga of The Lord of the Rings is playing out in my body

as it fights the spread of an infection in my throat.

They cheer as I send reinforcements flooding into the Pelenor fields in the form of warm salty water.

But which will be victorious?

The morning light will uncover the truth.

Re-possession

If you want to feel

like new,

close your eyes

.

You’re a pristine presence,

sensing but blind;

come from a place unknown

to inhabit your body

.

Where are you?

What’s happening?

What are these noises,

what is this

?

You are new to this,

every sound is an unknown;

you need to start to understand

this new place, these new sounds,

what all of this means

.

You listen,

you breathe,

you feel

.

You open your eyes;

this is your new life.

The little bellows

I’m a little bellows,

watch me as I blow,

there’s no need to push on me,

I’ll manage on my own.

Good-sweet air is all I need

to go and go and go,

to keep my little fires stoked

and so and so and so,

with automatic process

I’ll blow and blow and blow,

to take another deep breath

most certain I’ll let go.

Yes, we’re all little bellows,

beautiful little fellows,

that breathe the breath of this good life,

that call this planet home.

Broken plans

To look with clear eyes,

unmoved at the landscape,

waiting for the times to change,

to show their true faces,

speak their true words,

which must be true for

their right to live free,

unburdened by guilt

in choosing their way;

in any case never wanting

to force a situation

where they come unwillingly.

Nostrilnauts

Can you imagine,

in the not-so-far future,

that there will be invented

some small robots which,

like a tiny chimney sweep,

would climb up your nose hairs

and clean your nostrils?

.

How thrilling it could be

to employ such tiny machines

in a moment of need,

if there’s something stuck

just out of reach.

.

Maybe they’d whistle a tune,

a tinny little ditty,

as they clambered up those hairs

to excavate what was hidden there;

O’ little fella, I can think of no thing better,

you’d be one helluva friend to me.

Apartment

I’m on a level,

floating 4 floors up,

the scourge of summer

broken.

.

I melt backwards,

the sun is felt

warm against a crispness

that’s crept into the air.

.

Cement tiles, peppered with stones,

like slabs of mortadella

with too much pistachio;

a polished pastiche

shining up beams

to bathe my feet.

.

In a little heaven in the air

two embryos

in a sunny room,

the light inspires

as the sun’s demise

sends blue-orange light

over craggy roofs,

antennae poking

past the horizon.

.

A place not always

appreciated

for the time it gave,

I love this place,

but cannot wait

for change to take me

to a higher place.

Afrodita

Arms wide open,

right hand cradling a wine glass,

her left, fingers delicately curling,

thumb and forefinger touching gently

around a grape stem.

.

White skin contrasting the shadows,

her table is illuminated, crowded with

baskets of berries, packets of sugar,

and round, ripe fruit.

.

Her gaze, though lowered,

is essentially seductive;

admiring a wide, deep bowl,

filled with dark molasses.

.

The scene, not salacious,

but aphrodisiacal,

conjures a craving,

though not thirsting,

to join with that scene;

to consume and be consumed;

to take part in this experimentation of sweetness,

to forget all else and

engage in innocent expressions of sensuality,

to marvel in the sensory combinations created.

.

As all senses unify in one moment,

you are sacrificed to pure sensation,

and then without another thought,

submit to your baser instincts.

.

The goddess does not judge,

only acknowledges how it is so

that she exists to entice,

understanding of her place.
